Summer 2020: Morning Swim Lessons

Swim Lesson Coordinators: Kent Dertinger and Jill Bowman

Instructors: TBD

At this time we will not offer group swim lessons.

Welcome to our Swim More at Eastmoor learn-to-swim and stroke refinement program! We hope that you will find our progression program to be effective as well as nurturing. We expect our Swim Team members to be signed up for lessons, or to have passed all 10 stations, to take lessons to improve their swimming, as there is not enough time for much individual instruction at Swim Team Practice.  As the director, and in terms of our instructors, we are committed to preparing and working hard to teach your son/daughter how to swim the right way. Our program is designed to be “goal driven” and “technique oriented”. The program is operated in the station teaching method. These stations begin with gradual water adaptation and continue through competitive stroke refinement. Hopefully, you will find that we can meet the needs of your young swimmer, no matter what “level” he or she is at.

The term “goal driven” means that we have ten well-defined skills that represent “graduation points” to the next station in the system. We hope to help your swimmer build confidence in the water with the passing of each station. Please be aware that passing will not happen automatically, but will be based on successful demonstration and mastery of the vital skill(s) learned in each station. We will constantly be spiraling our curriculum to insure that learned skills would not be lost in the process.

“Technique-oriented” means that we are concerned with teaching proper stroke mechanics from the very beginning. Correcting errors is a much more difficult process later in the developmental progression. Our instructors will aim to make learning fun, while emphasizing correct learning from the first lesson. One nice aspect to this type of progression program is that your child can “progress” at his or her own pace.

You can sign your child up for the lesson you think is appropriate for he/she, however the coaches have final decision on the placement of the swimmer.  Our swimmers are expected to move through the lessons program and must "test out" of the current class in order to move to the next level.

Lessons are offered Monday through Thursday at 10:35 and 11:05 and they last 25 minutes. Please note that each station cannot be offered at each time of the day.

Session 1: June 1 – 4 and June 8 – 11

Session 2:   June 15 – 18 and June 22 – 25

Session 3:   June 29 – July 2

We will try to have lessons every day (even on colder weather days), because there will not be any make up times available to us with the swim team schedule on Fridays. If lessons are cancelled due to weather, we will just continue on with the next scheduled meeting time. The cost per two-week session is $40 and we will accept $25 for a one-week session if conflicts arise. Class size will likely be limited to 6 kids per instructor to keep the swimmer/instructor ratio reasonable for learning and repetitions.

Swim Lessons: Afternoon Lessons

If morning lessons don't work for you, your swimmer can get lessons in the afternoon in the form of private lessons!  Lessons are $25 for 30 minutes with one of our highly trained instructors and will take place on a agreed upon day and time.  If you have more than one swimmer, you can turn this into a group lesson as long as the swimmers are at similar levels.

Once the pool opens, please contact Jill Bowman (jill.bowman@hotmail.com) with your preferred day, time, and information about your swimmer(s) if you would like to set up private swim lessons outside of morning lessons and she will connect you with one of our instructors.
